FoodCorps Partners with Seeds of Change™ To Plant Seeds of Healthy Food in Schools Across the Country
Partnership will support nutritional education of culturally relevant foods for students

New York City, NY, April 22, 2021 – Today on Earth Day, FoodCorps announced the launch of a new partnership with SEEDS OF CHANGE™, a purpose-driven organic food brand with a mission to change the way people eat. This first-year partnership and grant will directly support the planting of more than 100,000 seeds in 300 school gardens, reaching 130,000 students across the nation.

“FoodCorps and SEEDS OF CHANGE share a vision that includes connecting kids to healthy and real food and to know where it comes from,” said Curt Ellis, Co-Founder and CEO of FoodCorps. “We are excited to kick off this partnership with SEEDS OF CHANGE that will continue to foster more garden-based, hands-on learning nutrition education.”

FoodCorps is a national AmeriCorps service program whose corps members connect kids to healthy food in school by leading hands-on lessons in growing, cooking, and tasting healthy food; partnering with farmers and food service workers to create nutritious and delicious school meals; and collaborating with communities to build a schoolwide culture of health. By providing these lessons in a safe environment, especially in school gardens, FoodCorps and SEEDS OF CHANGE aim to increase kids’ knowledge of, preference for, and consumption of nourishing foods.

Throughout its more than 30-year history, SEEDS OF CHANGE has focused on putting its purpose into action. By donating one percent of profits from its food items, the brand has given nearly $3 million in grants to community and school gardening programs. Now, through this partnership with FoodCorps, every food product purchased directly supports hands-on, evidence-based, culturally relevant food education in schools.

“Our goal as SEEDS OF CHANGE is to help change the way we eat by making it easy to add one more plant to our plate every day,” said Marisa Law, Senior Brand Manager for SEEDS OF CHANGE. “We are proud to partner with FoodCorps, an organization so well established in bringing this shared vision to life with kids, so that together we can have a tangible impact in communities across the country.”

The launch of the partnership comes just in time as April is the start of planting season nationally. FoodCorps service members will be given seeds to plant in their school gardens to be later harvested and enjoyed by their students.

About FoodCorps

Together with communities, FoodCorps connects kids to healthy food in school so that every child—regardless of race, place, or class—gets the nourishment they need to thrive. Our AmeriCorps leaders transform schools into places where all students learn what healthy food is, care where it comes from, and eat it every day. Building on this foundation of direct impact, FoodCorps develops leaders, forges networks, and pursues policy reforms that in time have the potential to improve all of our nation’s 100,000 schools.
